Sammie Miller Jr.

Sammie Miller Jr., age 90 was born August 4, 1929 in Austin, Texas to Minnie Moore and Jesse Morgan. From the loss of his parents at an early age and a challenging childhood, he overcame adversity to become the cornerstone of his family and a blessing to his friends and the many generations that he left behind. He was well-loved by his family and well-known in his community. In hospitality by trade, he retired from Southwestern University as a respected cook after 45 years of service. He was happiest when giving to and doing things for others—a man of deeds, a genuine smile, and a generous spirit that enjoyed laughter. He had a no-nonsense wit and wise ways; an important lesson to his children was to “own their mistakes and accept the consequences”. He was a man of few words who was frank, to the point, and simply was who he was. He shined brightly when providing for others and his family; faithfully hosting countless meals, outdoor barbecues, family celebrations and large holiday gatherings.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, brother, son, and great-grandson. He is survived by Beatrice Miller—his devoted “pretty” wife of nearly 71 years upon their October 1st wedding anniversary—and their four children: Susan Howard, Norma Clark, Sammie Miller II, Ernest Miller; and nearly a hundred grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his loving family and always remembered in our hearts.

A graveside service honoring his life and legacy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
