Ruby Lindsey Cox was born to Nealy and Viola Lindsey on May 15, 1926 and was raised and attended school in Florence, Texas. After graduation, Ruby married Bill Cox, and the couple soon moved to the Houston area, where they operated a wholesale meat supply business. Their only Child, Billy Don Cox, was born August 11, 1946.
Ruby and Billy Don moved to Austin in 1964, where she worked as an accountant for National Western Life for many years. Next Ruby worked as a bookkeeper for the Nyle Maxwell Auto Group. At retirement, Ruby moved to Georgetown to be closer to family. Ruby was a long time member of Crestview Baptist Church of Georgetown, where she helped with Vacation Bible School and Samaritan’s Purse Ministry. Ruby also served many years as treasurer of the Lawler Cemetery Association near her birthplace. She faithfully planned and organized the Lindsey Parmer Family Reunion held in Georgetown each summer. Ruby always had a twinkle in her eye and was fond of a good practical joke. Her chocolate pies were legendary and much coveted by her many nephews and nieces.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents Nealy and Viola Lindsey, brother Willie Lindsey, sister Weldon Lindsey Hoover, husband Chester Bill Cox, and son Billy Don Cox.
She is survived by brothers, Elmer Lindsey (Betty) and Raymond Lindsey (Verlon); and many nephews, nieces, family and friends.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 30, 2015 in the chapel of the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lawler Cemetery in Florence, Texas. Pallbearers will be Scott Lindsey, Rick Lindsey, Glenn Lindsey, Leon Gee, Jim Holder and Matt Grimm. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Lindsey, Toby Lindsey, Creighton Hoover and Garrett Hoover.
