Marvin Homer Parker

Marvin Homer Parker was born on November 3, 1926 in Round Rock, Texas to L.P. (Bud) and Cora (Dedear) Parker and after a life well lived, he passed away on February 28, 2024 in Georgetown, Texas at the age of 97.

Marvin graduated from Round Rock High School in 1944. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy for 2 years. He then began his career with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier from which he later retired.

In addition to working, Marvin took great pride in being a Past Master of the Round Rock Masonic Lodge #223, a member of the Ben Hur Shriners and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Marvin married Ruth on June 3, 1960 and they made their home in Round Rock, Texas. The Round Rock City Limits were closing in on their property so they packed up in July 1977 and moved to the “most beautiful” ranch in Florence, Texas. If you were around him in the past few years, you have heard the story; maybe multiple times.

After retiring from the United States Postal Service and moving to Florence, Marvin drove a school bus for Florence ISD and worked at Florence Grain Company delivering liquid feed.

When Marvin wasn’t clearing prickly pear or cactus off of the “most beautiful” ranch, he enjoyed spending time at the lake, listening to music, attending chili cookoffs, pitching washers and watching rodeos.

Marvin and Ruth owned a houseboat on Lake Travis for many years. After the houseboat burned, they bought an RV and parked it on Lake LBJ during the summers. In the off season they enjoyed traveling with their RV to Ruidoso, New Mexico to the bluegrass music festivals. He had a love for real country music by artists such as Hank Williams, Bob Wills and of course, Tanya Tucker.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, L.P. (Bud) and Cora Parker, wife, Ruth, brothers Joe and Benny Lee Parker and son in law, Andy Montgomery.

He is survived by his son, Larry (Julie) Parker of Florence, Texas; Sandra Montgomery of Georgetown, Texas; Charles Cluck, of Troupe, Texas; and Linda (Stan) Smith of Georgetown, Texas. Grandchildren, Kirsten Parker, of Florence, Texas; Wayne Montgomery, of Dublin, Texas; Monnie Montgomery of Florence, Texas; Velvet (John) Bretherick of Liberty Hill, Texas; Carli (Travis) Gingerich of Cedar Park, Texas; Kenneth (Bonnie) Anderson of Georgetown, Texas; Steven Smith of Georgetown, Texas; brother, Gene (Pat) Parker of Fredericksburg, Texas, and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

We would like to send a special thank you to the directors and nursing staff of The Delaney at Georgetown Village and to the Concho Hearts Hospice caregivers who loved and took care of Marvin.

There will be a visitation at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Burial will be at Florence City Cemetery in Florence, Texas on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:00 am.
