Mario R. Velez was born July 22, 1934 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He passed away at Scott and White Hospital on Friday November 29, 2024 peacefully. His daughter was with him at the time so he wasn’t alone. He worked very hard as a manager for Arco Bell Inc. in Belton, Texas to support his family. This is a celebration of his life and not a time to mourn. So if you have a funny or memorable memory then please come and share it with us. He is with his amazing and loving wife and the rest of his family in heaven.
After his wife died, he adopted a dog from the Temple Animal Shelter and they were inseparable. It helped him when he lost his wife. He loved working out, especially weight training. He loved to go out and eat. For 130 lb. man he was a “foodie” for sure and never gained weight no matter what he ate. I know, right?
He always wanted to learn to dance, so at 89 he took his first dance lesson with his daughter. It was a sight to behold. A man who loved dancing with two left feet. At least he had fun! He loved his family. A stern but loving man. He is survived by his daughter, Mayra Velez, a bilingual educator, M.Ed., Sons; Gustavo Velez and wife Kathleen and Mario Velez, Jr. grandchildren, Nichole Alarcon, Andre Velez, Mario III and Avianna Velez; great-grandson, Diego Alarcon.
A visitation for Mario will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628. A funeral service will occur Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628. Mario will be laid to rest following the service at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
Gratitude
Life is one big, continuous circle of giving and receiving energy.
Be thankful for who and what’s in your life instead of complaining about what you don’t have,
If you focus on gratitude, you’ll start to attract prosperity and abundance.
