John H. “Bud” Collier, age 86, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, September 23, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Collier. Bud and Phyllis have been residents of Sun City Texas for the past twenty years where Bud helped set up the community woodworking shop, participated in numerous Nature Club trips and events and even swam in several team triathlons. Bud played trombone in the “Show Band of the Southwest” as a University of Texas undergraduate. He took a break from his studies to serve as a United States Navy maritime patrol pilot during the Korean War. He returned to The University of Texas, graduating in 1959, and worked as an architectural engineer before returning to active duty as a pilot and flight instructor with the Navy. He attained the rank of Commander before retiring with more than 20 years of service.
Bud is survived by his wife, Phyllis Collier; daughters, Vicki Reed of Austin, TX and Julie Petru and son-in-law, Michael Petru of Manvel, TX; as well as son, Scott Collier and daughter-in-law, Chelsea Collier of Austin, TX. His son, Mark Collier, predeceased him. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 4010 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 1:00 pm.
