Jerry was born into a large loving family in Matador, Texas. He attended Motley County High School, and he graduated in 1978. He was a star football player and all-around amazing athlete. He was voted Most Athletic and Most Talented. He played basketball, track, baseball, and he was captain of the football team. Jerry was a part of the Senior Play Cast as well. After graduating high school, he received a scholarship to play football at Howard Payne University.
Jerry Lee started a career in the auto industry in the early 1980’s in Austin, Texas. Over the years, he held many roles in the auto industry that included finance, sales, and management.
Jerry was an incredibly spiritual person who regularly attended church, and he was known for sending daily Bible verses to his family and friends as inspiration and support. Jerry found peace and comfort when reading his Bible and writing in his many devotional journals.
When Jerry felt he needed to be grounded, he would watch his all-time favorite movie, “Remember the Titans.” He watched it so many times, that his wife, Robin, and his son, Jacob could recite every line of the movie. Jerry was an avid golfer, and if he wasn’t at work, he was on a golf course, making new best friends and connecting with friends, family and neighbors. Many times, Jerry would bring home unexpected dinner guests ready to chow down after several rounds of golf, and Robin was always willing to make huge amounts of Jerry’s favorite foods for him and his friends, new and old.
Jerry loved with his whole heart, never met a stranger, had the most contagious laugh, and he made everyone around him feel special. He would spend hours talking about anything that his friends and family had on their mind even into the wee hours of the morning.
Jerry’s son, Jacob Bernard Lee, could not be more similar to Jerry with their compassionate hearts, love of people, and athletic talent. Jerry adored his son, and he never missed a football game or a track meet, and was so proud of Jacob.
Jerry was married to his beautiful and loving wife, Robin Lee, and they were truly soulmates. When you saw them together, all you saw was love, tenderness, and Jerry cherished Robin and loved her with all his heart. Jerry also was a father to his stepdaughters, Abbye Buchanan and Sara Ricks, and their husbands, Paul Buchanan and Jason Ricks. He truly showed Abbye and Sara what it felt like to be loved unconditionally, and he was always there for them for anything they needed. He loved getting into deep conversation, listening and dancing to 90’s country music, and lit up their worlds with his heart, lots of laughs and his smile.
He was also the most involved and adoring Grandpa, aka “Jerry Baby”. His grandsons, Grayson and Brody Buchanan, and Callum Ricks, spent any free time they had with “Jerry Baby” and Grandma in Pflugerville and Salado, Texas. He constantly showed up with toys, games, and over the top ways to have fun with the boys. He took them out to share his love of golf with them, and every time they came to Salado, Grandma and “Jerry Baby” would load them up on the golf cart, and head to Sugar Shack and buy them anything they wanted. Jerry and Robin bought the house in Salado because they wanted everyone to be together as often as possible, which was almost every weekend, and creating memories that we will treasure forever.
