Jerry was born in Dawt, Missouri on August 1, 1934. He graduated from Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, California with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ministerial Theology and a minor in Psychology.
Jerry married Sandra Franks on May 11, 1957. They were married at a television station in Seattle, Washington, where they were part of a television program called “Gospel Westernaires.” Jerry was 20 years old and Sandra was 15 years old. They were on the program for three years every Saturday night from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., ministering in song. They were married for 61 years.
Jerry and Sandra have produced two record albums entitled “Voices of Calvary” and “Live for Jesus.” They, along with their son Mark, ministered for several years on the west coast and into Canada, ministering in song and preaching the gospel. Jerry played guitar and bass, Mark played the drums, and Sandra played the piano and accordian.
They settled down in Sunnyvale, California and Jerry worked as a carpenter supervisor for a research company in Menlo Park, California. He retired in 1995.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Geneva Thompson; his sister, Shirley Hall; and his brothers, William Thompson and James Thompson.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandra Thompson; his son, Mark and wife Cherlie Thompson; his three grandchildren, Jamie Coburn, Jerald Thompson and Joseph Thompson; and his two great-grandchildren, Jahs Verrell and Kaya Verrell. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and the rest of his relatives and friends.
Services celebrating Jerry’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
