He was born in Alice, Texas, in 1940. He graduated from Crystal City High School in 1958 and was the first senior to letter in all four sports. After a short semester in college, he did a short time in the Army. It was there he started to learn the game of golf and fell in love with it. Sonny started his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1962. In 1980 he moved to Austin and joined Great Hills Golf Club. In 1991, when he retired, he started playing 6 to 7 days a week. In 1995, he heard of a Dell Webb Community coming to Georgetown. He chose a lot and built his and Christine’ forever home. Sonny said it was where he wanted to live the rest of his life. It was his heaven on earth. He was instrumental in starting a group of golfers who became known as the Maverick’s. They all became an extended family.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
He is survived by his wife, Christine of 37 years and her three children and three grandsons and his beloved dog, GG. He leaves behind cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sonny will be remembered for his love of God, golf, family and his GG and a real zest for life.
In memory of HH, donations may be made to Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Andice, Texas. He said that though he did not attend a church, it was as close he came to a religion.
