He is survived by his mother, Antonia Solis of Florence, Texas; son, Jacob Solis of Florence, Texas; sisters, Dolores Solis Escutia and husband Marcelo, and Susan Henry; brothers, Richard Solis and wife Cristina of Belton, Texas; Anthony Solis of Florence, Texas and Simon Solis and wife Sharesa of Florence, Texas; nephews, August Solis-Lopez, Chris Vasquez, and Arturo Morales; nieces, Norma Mendoza, Emily Vargas, Fina Morales, Erika Henry, and Alexus Solis; as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Gilbert’s father, Guadalupe Solis, preceded him in death.
Gilbert was a long-time resident of Florence and graduated from Florence High School. He worked as a groundskeeper and performed maintenance for Florence Independent School District for over 25 years.
He enjoyed everything about the outdoors: cooking barbeque, camping, sports, and even watching outdoor programs on the Discovery Channel. He also enjoyed volunteering to coach his nieces’ FYRA softball teams. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan as well as an Oklahoma Sooners fan.
The visitation is from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Florence, Texas with Pastor Wes Willie officiating. The burial will follow at Florence City Cemetery in Florence, Texas.
