She married Raymond Poehl on April 18, 1946, and lived in Austin, Texas for many years where they raised their five daughters. Long after the girls moved away, they found a small parcel of land in Georgetown where they enjoyed their golden years.
Family and friends were Dorothy’s passion and delight. She enjoyed helping others and spending time with those she loved. She and Raymond looked forward to spending summer vacations fishing at Inks Lake with family members and their dearest friends, Jim and Bernice Smith. Dorothy loved to cook and was a fabulous baker and if you ever stopped in for a visit, you never left the house hungry. They played competitive domino games, and card games were frequently dealt at the dining room table.
Dorothy took pride in a clean house and a green well-manicured yard covered with beautiful flowering plants. After Raymond’s death, she found it entertaining to play computer games and would sit her dog by her side and play for hours. In addition, she enjoyed sitting on the deck drinking coffee and watching deer gather in the back yard. Dorothy accepted Christ as her Savior with Heritage Baptist Church of Georgetown where she served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Raymond Poehl; father, James Middleton; mother Irma Middleton McCaslin; sister, Nena Smith; and brothers, Gerald Middleton, William “Boots” Middleton, and James “Skipper” Middleton.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Shirley Chandler of Austin, Geraldine Stephens and husband Michael of Georgetown, Joyce McShane of Round Rock, Linda Morse of Burnet, and Kathleen Gardner and husband James of Sealy; and sister, Earlene Reece. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 11 great great-grandchildren, along with a host of other loving relatives and friends. Dorothy had a wealth of selflessness and her friendly smile will be sorely missed by all her friends, as well as her family.
