Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Warden Sgt. Christopher Ray Wilson left this earth on the afternoon of August 26th after valiantly battling a series of health complications related to COVID. He was born on December 11th, 1977 and left us at the all too young age of 43.
Chris graduated from Cameron High School in Milam County and after graduations, played football for Tarleton State University. Chris transferred to Sam Houston State University where he continued to play football and complete his degree, earning a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a Minor in History.
Chris began his TPWD career with the 50th Game Warden Cadet class in Austin, Texas on January 1, 2004. Chris’s first duty assignment was San Saba County, he later transferred to Bell County.
On December 1, 2016, after 12 productive years in the field Chris was promoted to Sgt. Special Investigator. Chris’s primary duty was to work complex environmental crimes and resource related cases, but at times he was called on to investigate threats against game wardens and park police officers.
Chris was certainly the partner you wanted in the field. With his calm and steady demeanor, his intimidating size and obvious physical strength, all coupled with that big, signature smile of his, Chris could calm the unruliest of groups and defuse the tensest of situations out in the deer camps and on the Highland Lakes in quite a hurry.
Chris loved his family dearly including his four children, Tristen (17), Colby (16), Tyler (12), and Hailey (7) along with his parents, Warren and Mary Ann Rinn.
With a big smile, a big presence, a big heart, and a big impact, his End of Watch leaves a hole in our hearts, all of whom are grieving the loss of his presence, but grateful beyond words, for the dignity, strength, and sacrifice of his service.
A visitation for Christopher will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at Milam County Cowboy Church, 2100 US-77, Rockdale, Texas 76567, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at North Elm Cemetery in Cameron, Texas.
