Andrea Lee Gray Presson passed away peacefully in October, 2023 in Austin, Texas. She was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois in 1945. Her family moved frequently with Hunt Oil during her early years before settling in Dallas, Texas for middle and high school. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, she matriculated to The University of Texas at Austin to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. She initially worked at Parkland Hospital in Dallas and soon moved into a faculty position at Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital. Her prescient matchmaker sister-in-law recommended that she meet Wynn Presson, a rising-star healthcare administrator. Love blossomed, and they married soon after in 1969.
They moved to Rockford, Illinois in 1970, where she worked as a member of the nursing faculty at the local junior college until the arrival of sons Eric and Garett, when she shifted to focus on motherhood and volunteering. Her commitment to civic activities further expanded after the family moved to Kansas City in 1976, as she dedicated herself to work with the Junior League, Kansas City Zoo, Johnson County Community College, Mainstream Coalition, and numerous other organizations who benefitted from her passionate will to make the world a better place. With the arrival of their daughter, Amber, their family was complete.
After 30 wonderful years in Kansas City, Wynn and Andrea moved to the warmer climes of Austin, Texas, enjoying the lively environment of the Longhorn Village Retirement Center. She continued to stay active in the community with the Bee Caves Library, The University of Texas School of Nursing Advisory Board, and the Longhorn Village Green Committee among numerous other organizations.
Andrea was a fierce and loyal friend, maintaining many close, lifelong relationships. She fervently advocated for issues close to her heart, such as the environment and higher education.
She is survived by: husband Wynn Presson; brother John Gray (wife Teresa Holland); sons Eric Presson (wife Jacquie Presson) and Garett Presson (wife Paula Vergara); daughter Amber Rogers (husband Ryan Rogers); niece Autumn Gray (husband Tim Edwards); grandchildren Morgan Presson, Sierra Presson, Makena Presson, Colton Presson, Bradley Rogers, and Annalise Rogers.
