Thomas Tom Gregory Haynes

Son of Benjamin Carlisle Haynes Jr. and Martha Brooks Haynes of Athens, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert (Bob) and Benjamin Carlisle Haynes III.

Tom attended Oconee County Georgia schools before graduating from Athens High School in 1967. Tom worked as a control center operator for Savannah Electric and Power Company before attending Clemson University where he obtained a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he was employed at Duke Power Company as a senior power plant engineer supporting both fossil and nuclear facilities. He later formed his own private consulting company working in the U.S. and abroad.

Mr. Haynes is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Joyce Goethe Haynes of Gastonia, North Carolina, and a sister, Mary Haynes Piazza (Tim) of Statham, Georgia. He has two daughters, Jeanne Haynes Dinh (Cuong) and Marjorie Haynes Burnette (Josh) all of Marietta, Georgia. He has three grandchildren, Avery Dinh, Kara Dinh and Colton Burnette. In addition, he has several nieces and nephews: Melanie Haynes Malnati (Jonathan), Jacob Piazza (Julie), Carla Piazza Dawson; great nieces and nephews: Lucas Dawson and Elliot Piazza.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM Saturday, April 29, 2017, Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia, North Carolina with visitation before the service from 10:00 AM ~12:00 PM.
