Sheila O'Brien, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2023. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love and laughter. Born Sheila Schrauf in 1952 to her mother and father, Edmea and Charles, and raised in South Florida, she cultivated a life filled with warmth and joy. Sheila graduated from Hollywood Hills High School in 1970 and married Patrick O’Brien in 1978. Her journey took her to Virginia, where she created beautiful memories, and then back to her beloved Florida before settling in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she spent her final years surrounded by her adoring family.
Throughout her life, Sheila valued the importance of family and treasured every moment she spent with them. Her loving husband, Patrick O'Brien, was her rock and partner in life, and together they built a strong foundation of love and support. Sheila was a devoted mother to her children, Shannon and John, and her role as a grandmother brought her immense joy. She adored her grandchildren, Donny, Brittany, and Haydon, and embraced the precious moments shared with her great-grandchildren, Greyson, Sophia, and Mayson. Sheila's love and nurturing spirit touched the lives of her three sisters, Joyce (Cliff), Debbie (Bill), and Linda (Larry) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Sheila was unmatched in her skillset. She possessed meticulous attention to detail, evident in her beautifully kept home, where she graciously hosted gatherings for friends and relatives over the years. Her warm and welcoming nature made everyone feel at ease, and her clever smile enamored many. Sheila had a unique way of making every occasion memorable and fun, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her.
In her leisure time, Sheila enjoyed engaging in various activities that brought her joy. Playing cards and board games provided cherished moments of friendly competition and laughter with loved ones. Sheila also found solace in the pleasure of shopping with loved ones. She relished in the warmth of the sunshine while tending to her blooming flowers as an avid gardener.
Sheila's organized nature extended beyond her immediate surroundings. Throughout the years, she became somewhat of an archivist, diligently saving tokens and mementos that would serve as reminders of the cherished moments shared with her loved ones. Her thoughtfulness and attention to detail were a testament to her caring nature and her desire to ensure that her family would always have precious memories to hold onto.
Above all, Sheila will be remembered for her gentle and loving nature. She faced life's challenges with tenacity and approached every situation with grace and optimism. Her sense of humor was invigorating, and her clever wit sparked uproarious laughter in those around her. Sheila's presence brightened the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will forever be cherished in their hearts.
The family will celebrate her passing privately.
