Rebecca Thompson Hunsinger

Rebecca (Thompson) Hunsinger, 78, of Charleston, SC and formerly of Gastonia passed away peacefully at the Summerville Community Hospice House in South Carolina on Friday February 3, 2023. Rebecca was born and raised in Gastonia. Rebecca was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She had a long career in accounting. She traveled all over the United States training people with her job. She loved to crochet and she made beautiful Afghans for her friends and family. She also loved to bake and her family is going to miss her carrot cake and her pecan pies. Her husband describes her as “spunky.” They met at age five and started dating in High School. They both went to Ashley High School where they were High School Sweethearts. They were married for 59 years before she passed. Rebecca was a private person, but those that knew and loved her will deeply miss her.

Rebecca is the daughter of the late Imogene (Robinson) Thompson and Otis Thompson. Her sisters, Sarah Stalls and Nancy Downing and brother, Donald Thompson, have gone on before her.

Rebecca leaves behind her husband, John Hunsinger of the home, daughter Aimee Glover, her fiancé Derek Donavan, and son Mark Hunsinger and his wife Lynn. Rebecca’s legacy includes four grandchildren – Drew, Josh, Rachel and Molly. She also leave behind her sister, Linda Dodgen.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday February 11, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive in Gastonia. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service beginning at 11:000 am at the funeral home. Revered Roger Overton will officiate and offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember Rebecca.
