Larry Gordon Webb, age 72, passed away on Thursday ~ May 16, 2019 at his residence with his family by his side. Larry was a family man first and foremost. He was quite proud of his wives, daughters, grandchildren and extended family and loved to tell people about them. He loved children and was kind to them. He said “children just want you to listen to them.” He loved listening to his grandchildren tell him about their lives and what they thought and how they felt. He loved being outside and taking care of his yard. He was stubborn and single minded when working on a task and would often lose track of time and everything else when he was working on a project. He not only raised children but gardens, cows, chickens, pigs, goats, cats, dogs and a pony. He was generous to a fault and judged people by their inner and not outer qualities. Larry served in the Air Force, got an Associate’s Degree on the GI bill and went to work to take care of his family. He worked for AMP, Inc for many years and especially loved working in the Chemistry Lab where he was known for helping to solve difficult problems and to keep the plant running smoothly. Although Larry was a serious minded person he had a quick wit and a silly side. He smiled and laughed often and cared deeply for other people. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him.
Those left behind to cherish Larry's memories and carry on his legacy are his dear wife of 19 years: Judy Hicks Webb; two daughters and son in law: Jennifer and Donavon Kirby of Cramerton, North Carolina, Heather Webb of Cramerton, North Carolina; stepdaughter and husband: Donna and Tim Wood of Smyrna, South Carolina; five grandchildren: Ashley and husband Quentin Carswell, Tim II and wife Rachel Wood, Josiah Wood, Isaac Wood and Elijah Wood; three great grandchildren: Kassidy Carswell, Sadie Carswell and Quentin II Carswell; two brothers and sisters in law: Jerry and Gayle Webb of Gastonia, North Carolina, Derek and Jennifer Webb of Belmont, North Carolina; brother and sister in law: Cecil and Linda Anderson of Gastonia, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Larry was the son of the late Willie Webb and Louise Head Webb. He was also preceded in death by his first and loving wife of more than 20 years and the mother of their children, Barbara Webb who passed away in 1994 and never to be forgotten.
A Life Well Celebrated Ceremony will be held at 6:00 PM, Monday ~ May 20, 2019 in the Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina.
Following the Memorial Ceremony, the family will receive guests in the Chapel.
