John Tyler Barham, 57, of Gastonia, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. He was born in Asheboro, North Carolina on January 30, 1958 and was the son of the late B. Francis and Nancy McNeely Barham. He graduated from Asheboro High School and studied engineering at Temple University. John was a member of King Solomon-704 Masonic Lodge in Gastonia.
John traveled the world as a working musician. An excellent bass guitar player, he enjoyed an extensive career in music. He performed with many different bands in his early years, even having a short stay in Saudi Arabia. John settled in Gastonia where he worked at Belmont Textile Machinery as a field engineer. He enjoyed his job and made lasting friendships there. “JB”, as he was known to his friends, found and married the love of his life, Jan Grice, and they enjoyed many happy times together, especially at Lake Lure.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janice Renee Grice Barham; his brother, B. Francis Barham, Jr.
John is survived by his sister, Betty Carter (David) of Asheboro; two brothers, Bob Barham (Gwen) of Asheboro, Mac Barham (Gail) of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Sharon Barham of Charlotte; four nieces and two nephews.
The family would like to express our appreciation to Kay Grice, Sam and Jacueline Jenkins for their constant support and sincere love for John.
Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday March 27, 2015 at 3:00pm at Carothers Memorial Chapel, 2205 Willamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054
Interment will be private and at a later date.
