John Lamar Cartledge, 88, passed away on March 10, 2016. He was born October 12, 1927 to the late Haywood and Gertrude Cartledge. John was a true family man. His children will remember that he was a great father who was always very kind to everyone he knew. He loved to watch football and NASCAR and always tried to remain healthy and fit. John worked for several years at Bank of America and was very proud of his service in the US Army and served in WWII and the Korean Conflict.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Ruby Wells Cartledge of Gastonia; two sons and their wives, David and Daryl Cartledge of Mount Olive, NC and Michael and Gail Cartledge of Belmont, NC; grandson, Tim Johnson and three step-grandchildren, Justin, Troy and Dale Dreyer; three great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by one son, Robert Cartledge, two grandsons, Larry and Kevin Johnson of Mt. Olive, NC.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM prior to the service at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park.
