Barry Reed Hughes

He was a native of Gaston County and was the son of the late Charles Reed and Lucille Funderburk Hughes.

Barry was a graduate of Holbrook High School, Lowell, member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, Orange Park, Florida and former member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Lowell.

Barry formerly worked for Gaston Skills and was presently serving as chaplain for Life Care at Wells Crossing, Orange Park. He loved going out to eat, playing bingo and singing.

Barry is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Charles Darrell and Clara Hughes of Orange Park, Florida; two nieces, Sherry Giovannoni and husband Rick and their children, Ricky Miller and wife Rachel and their children, Vickie and Christian, Karol Gilbert and husband Rick and their children, Luke and Connor; nephew, Charles Walter Hughes and wife Josephine and their daughter, Melissa Jones and husband Andrew.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia with a Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m. Monday at the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Josh McCall officiating.

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
