Ruby Cox Herrington

Ruby was born on December 22, 1934, in Blount County. At the age of 6, she began 1st grade at Red Hill. After moving to Jefferson County, in 1940, she began attending Corner School, where she graduated in 1952 as Salutatorian of her class. She began her career in Mortgage Lending; later retiring from Mortgage Corporation of the South.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elda Shipp Cox and Asa Macon Cox; husband, Maxwell G. Herrington; daughter, Belinda JoAnna Gurley; brothers: Joe B. Cox, James "Jimmy" Cox, and Johnny Ray Cox; and sisters: Evelyn Sanders, Myra Caddell, and Louise McKinney.

Ruby is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Cox Bankston, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ruby was loved and will be greatly missed.

A visitation for Ruby will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.

Ruby will be laid to rest in Mount Zion Cemetery, 2437 Corner Rd, Warrior, AL 35180.
