Rose Marie Douglas Dorning

Rose Marie was preceded in death by parents Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J Douglas, Sr.; beloved husband James H Dorning; brothers Andrew J Douglas Jr and Norman E Douglas. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters Rose Marie Epperson (Jerry) and Darlene Bohannon (Mike); grandchildren Andrew Bohannon (Cheryl), Stephen Epperson (Kelley), and Nicole Smith (Mike); great-grandchildren Jeweliana Bohannon, Haylee Smith, and Peyton Smith; nieces Patti Douglas, Judy Pharo and Mary Douglas. She is also survived by distant nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many great friends.

After Rose Marie graduated from Ensley High School she began work at S H Kress in Ensley as a floor clerk, quickly advancing to Office Manager, a position she held until her retirement.

While helping her parents on their Blount County farm she met the love of her life, James Dorning. Together they built a home across from her parent’s farm and it was there she lived the remainder of her life.

Rose Marie and James took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren Andrew. Nicole and Stephen. They adored their ‘Mema’.

After James passed, her granddaughter Nicole and her husband Mike presented Rose Marie with two new joys…Haylee and Peyton. The girls loved spending time and playing with their ‘Meme’ and they brought much happiness and comfort to Rose Marie in her final years.

Rose Marie was well looked after by her son-in-law’s Jerry and Mike, and to her they were always ‘sons’ with no ‘in-law’ attached.

Her final illness came quickly from out of nowhere, and as late as mid-June she could be seen on a riding mower cutting her large yard or zipping across the road in her golf cart to visit Haylee and Peyton. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother and she will be deeply missed.

A visitation for Rose will be held Monday, July 11, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at11:00 AM. Rose will be laid to rest in Bethlehem Cemetery, 251 Dallas Loop Road, Trafford, AL. following the service.
