The following group of retired Security Managers meets once a month for lunch in New Orleans, Louisiana.  We heard about Scott's passing and wanted to share our thoughts and sympathies with his family.  We all knew and worked with Scott for many years.  
 We are old timers too.  Some of us worked in Birmingham for periods over the years with Scott.  Scott was known by all as a great guy, super professional, and had a really great sense of humor.  Scott was a part of our daily lives when we worked in the Security Department.  He will remain a regular part of our memories as we tell stories of the good ole days at the monthly lunch.  Until we meet again, may God hold him in the palm of his hand.  And God bless his family.

When I think of my Dad, my heart fills with a whirlwind of memories, each one a precious glimpse into his larger-than-life presence. Describing him feels like trying to capture lightning in a bottle; even if I had all the time in the world, words would still fall short. But one thing I can say is that he exuded confidence in every step, effortlessly drawing people to him wherever he went. It seemed like every outing turned into a mini-reunion, with someone always stopping to chat, turning a quick errand into a journey of connections. And heaven forbid he ran into an old friend; you could forget about sticking to any schedule for at least the next half hour! He had this uncanny ability to forge lasting bonds and leave an indelible mark on everyone he met.
     
He was more than just a big fish in a small pond; he was, in my eyes, the heartbeat of our little town. As a kid, I admired him with a mixture of awe and aspiration, thinking, "If I can be half the person he is, I'll be set for life." Dad had this way of pushing me to be my best, always encouraging me to surround myself with people who shared a drive for success. His advice was like gold, nuggets of wisdom that still echo in my mind today. I can still hear him saying, "If you're going do something, do it right the first time," a mantra that’s guided me through countless challenges.
     
But beyond all else, his love for his family was unwavering. He imparted tough lessons along the journey, but they were always wrapped in a cocoon of affection. He believed in the value of learning from life's challenges, yet he was consistently there to brush us off and guide us back onto the right path. He will be missed more than words can describe. I love you Dad, I was lucky to be your Son.

I haven’t seen Scott in decades but he was an integral part of one of the greatest neighborhoods in Gardendale history. We had a great time growing up on Columbia Ave in Gardendale. We played football, baseball, horseshoes, ping pong, golf and even jumped ramps on our bicycles in our spare time. 
Scott was a main character in a story I have told over the last 60 years. My Mom went to her regular bowling league at the Pine Bowl in Fultondale. She told me to not ride on Scott’s Honda 50 Cub motorcycle while she was gone. Well, of course, when Scott said let’s go to Moncrief Park to play baseball I said, let’s go. We had to cross a pasture where the police station stands now. When we got to the other side I told Scott to stop my leg is scratched. I looked down and a stick was sticking out of my left leg about 4 inches.  Scott took me to Ray Brock’s house. Ms Brock took me to Pine Bowl. The only time my Mom was taken aback after my several trips to the emergency room.  Good times! Scott was a great early childhood friend!!!

MY HEART GOES OUT TO ALL OF THE AWTRY FAMILY AND ALL OF OUR FRIENDS THAT KNEW SCOTT AND LOVED THAT RASCAL LIKE I DID . I'M PROUD TO SAY THAT HE MAY BE THE ONLY PERSON THAT I'VE COME IN CONTACT WITH OR TALKED TO IN THE PAST 60 YEARS THAT WAS ALWAYS A PLEASURE WE ALWAYS AGREED  OR AGREED TO DISAGREE . IT WAS ALWAYS ENJOYABLE TO BE AROUND SCOTT MY HEART IS STILL FULL OF JOY FROM HIM BEING IN MY LIFE. WHAT A GREAT GUY AND FRIEND THAT WE WILL NEVER FORGET... Scott was a good man. He was  a valued member of our GHS Class of 1973. Would run into Scott occasionally and we always took an opportunity to talk. Scott will be missed. But know I will see him again in Heaven.

Scott, you were as much family as a friend. We shared a childhood with lifelong memories that I will never forget. Gonna miss you buddy.
