Ronald "Scott" Awtry, Jr. passed away on April 10, 2024, at the age of 68. He was born on May 9, 1955, to Ronald Scott Awtry, Sr. and Rosalee Howard Awtry, who preceded him in death. Scott was a lifelong member of Gardendale First Baptist Church and shared his love for Jesus through his actions towards others. He graduated from Gardendale High School in 1973 and later retired from AT&T where he was the Head of Asset Protection for the South East for many years.
Scott was an avid golfer, a fan of Alabama sports, and had a great sense of humor that always brought joy to those around him. He took great pride in his children and their achievements in life, and he was grateful to be a loving Papa to his three wonderful grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Scott Awtry, Sr. and Rosalee Howard Awtry; and his brother, Kenneth N. Awtry. Scott is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Karen Lynn Waid Awtry; his son and daughter in law, Ronald Scott "Trey" Awtry, III and Heather; his daughter and son in law, Whitney Awtry Pichelmayer and Greg; his three grandchildren, Noah, Isaac, and Savannah; and a host of extended relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 am. A Celebration of Scott's Life will commence at 11:00 am at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel. Following the celebration, there will be an interment at Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Eddie Lindley, Richard Lindley, Daniel Hernandez, Terry Buxton, John Allen, and DeWayne Mann will be serving as pallbearers.
