Ricky L. Sorensen, 66, of Mount Olive, Alabama, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024. Ricky lived a life full of passion, adventure, and generosity. He was an avid sailor, finding joy in the gentle breezes of Lake Wedowee. His love for the open water was matched only by his enthusiasm for working on cars and building things with his own hands. A man of boundless curiosity, Ricky never turned down an invitation for a plane ride or a spontaneous adventure.
After a dedicated career, Ricky retired from Birmingham Backhoe and Excavating, where he spent many years contributing his skill and hard work. Those who knew him best remember his incredible generosity—Ricky was known for giving the shirt off his back and always making sure his loved ones were well cared for. He cherished gathering with family and friends, relishing in the warmth and joy of their company.
Ricky is survived by his beloved daughter, Eren Sorensen, and his cherished grandchildren, Hayley Sorensen (Gaige Roberson), Skyler Bailey, Alek Balentine, and Ryan Balentine. His great-grandchildren, Julius Roberson, Amelia Roberson, and Summer Clark, were a source of great joy in his life. He is also survived by his brother, Buddy Sorensen, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lora Sorensen, and his brothers Ray Sorensen, Sidney "Sid" Sorensen, and David Sorensen.
A memorial service to celebrate Ricky’s remarkable life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Ricky’s memory.
Ricky’s adventurous spirit and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of generosity, love, and joy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
