Martha K. Layne

Martha Kathryn Layne, age 86 of Homewood, AL went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 3, 2015. She was a lifetime member of Southside Baptist Church where she was active with the Church Clothes Closet, the Food Bank, and Sunbeam Meals on Wheels. Martha and her husband Bill owned and operated Jelly's Steak House in Homewood for over 27 years. Martha served as a foster parent and worked tirelessly as a volunteer with Genetiva Hospice. She volunteered for many other civic organizations as well. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Layne; three sons, Gary Layne (Theresa), Charles Layne, and an infant son; a daughter, Saundra Morgan; four brothers, William Thomas, Charles Thomas, Bobby Thomas, and Lamar Thomas; and a sister, Elizabeth Layton. She is survived by her loving family, her daughter, Melisa “Lisa” Layne; grandchildren, William L. Morgan “Fella” and Christopher Layne; and a great grandchild, Micah Morgan; many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January10, 2015 at Southside Baptist Church at 12:00 Noon with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Dr. Tim Kelly will officiate services with graveside services officiated by Dr. Calvin Armstrong.
