Inez Smith

Inez M Smith, 89, passed away on July 16, 2022. She is survived by daughters, Vicki S Marion (Ken) and Jeannie S Sosebee (Tim), son Daniel M Smith, and son-in-law R Steve Morton (Kelly), grandson Andrew R Morton and granddaughter Sawyer E Smith. She is also survived by a sister Stella M White, sister-in-law Marie Smith and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is pre-deceased by her husband Daniel (OD) Smith, daughter Patti S Morton, sister Bobbie M Self and parents Victor P and Mary E Marlowe. Inez was born on September 2, 1932 in Tuscaloosa, AL. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1950. She went to work at the Tuscaloosa Airport following graduation. She married Dan Smith in 1951.

After raising their 4 kids, she returned to work as a substitute teacher at Hayden High School in 1978. She then took the job of Office Administrator at the school in 1987 and retired in 2011. In 2015 she was given the West Blount Chamber of Commerce Special Inspiration Recognition in recognition and appreciation of her contribution to the community. She was a lover of college football and most important Alabama football. She did not like to be disturbed on Saturdays in the fall! She also loved to cook and expected you to sit down at her table to eat if you showed up.

She was a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church and loved her visits with her Sunday School friends and neighbors.

Flowers will be accepted. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama or National Kidney Foundation.

Funeral will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Hwy, Gardendale, AL. on Friday, July 22, 2022. Visitation will be held 10:00 -11:30. Service will follow. Burial will be at 2:00 pm Memory Hills Gardens, 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
