

Hugh Eugene Howard passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2025, at age 93. He was born on February 1,1932 in Birmingham, Al. His grandparents immigrated to America from Scotland in 1890.
He was known for his hard work ethic and dedicated over 45 years to the automotive industry. His interests in cars started as a teenager working on hotrods with his local buddies. He officially retired from Royal Oldsmobile of Vestavia as General Manager.
He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He loved the Lord, his family, and his church family. He was a faithful member of East Gardendale Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved to share stories about fishing trips with his buddies.
He served in the United States Airforce for eight years with four of those years being during the Korean War.
He is survived by his children, Glenda Smith and Robert H. Howard, Sr. (Vicki); grandchildren, Allison Horton (Thomas), Raymond David Smith Jr., Robert H. Howard Jr., Grant H. Howard, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by Christine Howard, his wife of over 33 years; son, Thomas E. Howard, a grandson, Christopher Smith; his father Hugh Howard, mother Stella Howard, sisters Mildred Jenkins, Martha Ross, Joyce Watkins, Ann Smith, and brother William Howard
Visitation will be on Friday, March 28th from 11:00 - 12:00 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel with services to follow. Reverend Mark Barber of East Gardendale Baptist Church will officiate.
