Coy E Purkey Jr.

Coy Edwin (Ed) Purkey, Jr of Gardendale, AL was born on August 26, 1944 in Corbin, Kentucky and passed away on December 9th, 2024 at the age of 80. He worked as a dispatcher in the trucking industry until he retired in 2006. Once he retired he loved spending time with his grandkids and family going to as many sporting events and functions as he could. And once mom passed, he got a new best friend, Repo. If you saw dad, Repo was close by. The 2 were inseparable. He was also a member of Gardendale’s First Baptist Church for over 50 years. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jimmie Nell Purkey; his parents Coy E Purkey, Sr and Jean Bradley Purkey; sister Dorothy Thompson and brother Garland Purkey.

He is survived by a son, Paul Bradley Purkey (Jennefer); daughter, Sheralyn Purkey Valentine (Jim); grandchildren, Austin Purkey (Ashley), Carson Purkey, Justin Valentine, Andrew Valentine and Anna Valentine; sister Christine Patterson, (Allen).

A visitation for Mr Purkey will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM.
