Charles T. Hill, of Pinson, AL, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, surrounded by family members. He was born on March 11, 1928, and was with us for an amazing 96 years. His parents were Samuel Clifton and Flora Mae Cochran Hill.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Peggy Love Hill, brother Frank and granddaughter Katie.
Charles was a graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School in Morris, AL and spent his working life in the cement manufacturing business in Alabama, Florida and Maryland. He also served his country in the Navy in the 1940’s. He was a long-term member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Pinson where he was still teaching Sunday School up until a few years ago. He, along with several of his retired friends, spent many hours working at the church, doing repairs, painting, and remodeling. He also loved to care for his yard and was still cutting his own yard at the age of 94. He spent endless hours researching his family genealogy and created over 30 years of family photo albums. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was a Mason and a member of the Sam Thompson Lodge for over 75 years.
Charles is survived by his sons, Steven (Linda) of Arkansas and Mark (Pam) of Morris, Kerry (Tarrie) Love of Pinson and one brother Dan (Sue) also of Morris. He had 8 grandchildren – Kevin, Kelly (Frederick), Keith (Rhonda), Kenny (Liz), Jana (Kenny), Cliff (Heather), Katie and Kim (Hishmhael). He had 22 great-grandchildren – Savannah, Austen, Hayden, Kaia Lin, Erica, Sydney, Miranda, Jemma, Stellan, Nate, Amrita, Charles, Sam, Ellie Kate, Hadley, Etta Beth, Lucas, Alyna, Tristan, Aavory, Elias, and Khaidin. He also had 4 great-great-grandchildren – Everrett, Bryson, Elliot, and Ka’Marion.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 27, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rideout’s Gardendale Chapel. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Hopewell Baptist Church, 9076 Hopewell Church Rd, Pinson, AL 35126. Burial to follow at Morris- Kimberly Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, family request that donations be made to your home church or to your favorite charity in Mr. Hill’s memory.
