Barbara "Jan" Mayfield Ferguson

She was born November 15, 1955, in Birmingham, Alabama, to James and Nancy Mayfield. She married her high school sweetheart, Jeffrey G. Ferguson, on July 15, 1977.

Barbara was better known to her family and close friends as Jan. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother who always put her family’s needs above her own. She was selfless, caring, and honest. Barbara was a woman of God and loved to watch Gardendale First Baptist Church on T.V. every Sunday. She loved music, gardening, and caring for her cats and pet turtle. She got so much joy from growing tomatoes and other vegetables and loved to show them to her children and grandchildren when they visited.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Ferguson, mother and stepfather, James and Nancy Burks, her daughter and her husband, Brandon and Stephanie Hays, her son Stephen ‘Randy’ Ferguson, and daughter Christie Ferguson; grandchildren, Paul Acker, Stella Ferguson, Liam Busby, Urban Hays, and Boston Hays. She lived her life for her grandchildren and loved them deeply.

Please join us in celebrating her life Wednesday, September 30, visitation will be 1:00 p.m followed by a service in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. at Ridout’s Chapel, 2029 Decatur Hwy, Gardendale, AL 35071. Graveside service will follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens, 2100 Moncrief Rd. Gardendale, AL 35071.
