Barbara E. Amatangelo, age 90 of Gardendale, Alabama passed away on February 15, 2024. She was born on May 29, 1933 to the late GC and Mildred Eubank in Birmingham, Alabama where she was raised. She was a graduate of Ensley High School. In 1981, she married Chester Amatangelo and moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she cared for their six children.
She not only was a mother to her six children but also cared for her adoring grandchildren as if they were her own. Barb was an avid reader, reading all that she could, a talented artist using different mediums from paints to creating sculptures. Chet always had adventures planned to explore new cities together and see different music artists. You could count on her to cheer for her Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and she never stopped cheering for her Alabama Crimson Tide.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Amatangelo; her son, Thomas Mark Nance; her sister, Carolyn Armstrong; and her parents, Mildred Pritchett Eubank and GC Eubank. She is survived by her five stepchildren: Matthew Amatangelo (Judith Stoehr Amatangelo), Roberta Amatangelo Bauer (Paul Bauer), David Amatangelo (Victoria Holland), Rebecca Amatangelo (Robert Horn), and Marie Elena Amatangelo (Michael Hewins), daughter-in-law Amy Craddock Nance, her three grandchildren, Jason Bertocchi, Jennifer Bertocchi and Katie Amatangelo, her great grandchild, Evelyn Horn; her nieces, Rebecca ‘Beth’ Tucker and Laura Schmidt (Gary Schmidt), her nephew, Jeff Armstrong, a host of extended relatives, and her spunky 17 year old cat, Chazerina.
A private graveside service will be held in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society in memory of Barbara and her love of animals. The family would like to thank the Covenant Woods Family, and the staff of UAB and Greenbriar at the Altamont, all of whom showed gentle kindness, care and compassion for Barbara. She will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her.
