Albert F. Brown

He is preceded in death by his wife Judy , his mother, Irene Brown (Cates), his father, Roscoe Brown; his brothers Eddie and Joe Brown and sister Eva Sandle.

He is survived by his children, Kelly Splawn (Mike), Cosette Brown, and Cathy DeMent ; his sibling Mary Watson; three grandchildren; Samuel Splawn, Julia Stewart, and Claire Splawn; one great grandchild Zuri Splawn Stewart; nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. A special person, his caregiver/companion Rose White.

Al joined the Army Branch of the military during the Korean War. His Father Roscoe gave consent as he was too young to make the decision. Al wanted to be in combat like John Wayne. His aspirations were curbed, and he remained in the United States. He served with the Military Police division. He was stationed near Washington DC and guarded one of the militaries top secret computers.

After his military service he moved to California where he attended college. It was his desire to become a criminologist. During a visit back home to Alabama he met, fell in love and soon married Judy, his wife of 64 years. They briefly lived in California before returning to Gardendale to live on his family’s home place. This is where they lived out the remainder of their lives. He was a salesperson and was a top producer while acting as the southeast manager for GRACO before retiring.

He enjoyed playing cards (poker, gin rummy and Rook) and taught his daughters to be his card mates during their young years. Something he also passed on to his grandchildren. He discovered a passion for golf early on and it became a routine with him to play all day on Saturday’s and Sunday mornings. He loved his mother- in- law and called her by his special name - Miss E. He enjoyed learning of any kind which made him inquisitive and smart. He was an avid reader and could carry on a conversation about anything. He was funny and loved to tell jokes which always made his wife laugh. Breakfast was his favorite meal and Judy always made sure to have a GREAT breakfast most weekends. He and Judy loved to travel the United States-by automobile. They visited most every state and always found special places along the way to have a nice dinner.

It should be mentioned he was cared for by Rose White and other care givers during the final stages of his life. Rosie is one of the absolute best at providing attentive and informed care that a family could want for their loved one. She is to be commended for her service to “Mr. Brown.”

A graveside service for Al will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Moncrief Cemetery, 2055 Moncrief Road, Gardendale, Al 35071. Following the graveside service there will be a celebration of life at 11:30 AM at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, Fireside Parlor, 2029 Decatur Hwy, Gardendale, Al 35071.
