Florine Moser was born October 24, 1933 in Scotland, South Dakota. She had one older sister, two older brothers and one younger sister. Her dad had severe asthma, so they were advised to move away from South Dakota, so they moved to Denver, Colorado where she grew up.
In December 1950, she met Miles Britton, an enlisted Air Force man, at the local roller rink. They knew each other for about 6 weeks when Miles asked Florine to marry him (he was tired of walking back to base in the snow after the buses had stopped running). They were married on January 9, 1951. That September their first son, Robert was born, and Miles was transferred to Florida, where Florine and Robert joined him. The next year, in November 1952, a second son, William joined the family.
When Miles was discharged from the military in 1954, they moved to southern California (Miles was born and raised in northern California), there they joined other members of Miles' family. In October 1954, Miles contracted polio and spent the next year in the hospital, as the polio had affected both of his legs and left arm. Also, about that time Florine found that they would be expecting another baby. In June 1955, daughter Linda was born, and some months later Miles was released from the hospital.
Florine was hired by a bindery in East Los Angeles that made books and magazines, where she was employed for 25 years. Florine took care of Miles and the children, and worked when most women stayed home to raise the family. She worked on the graveyard shift and Miles worked during the day so that the children would always have a parent at home. In 1984, after many heart attacks and other health problems Miles was gathered to his people.
In October 1985 she married Robert “Bob” Fowler, a co-worker from the bindery that she had known for many years. They were married for 20 years, when in October 2005, Robert was gathered to his people on their anniversary. They had been living in Hemet, California for 20 years.
Florine stayed in Hemet for several years, until her health started to falter, then she moved into Orange County where she could be closer to Linda. She lived at Brookdale, an assisted living community for a few years, when last year she moved to Valley View Gardens where she spent her last few months.
Florine loved to sew, mostly clothes. In her later years she embroidered quilts by hand. She ultimately made a quilt for all of her children and grandchildren.
Florine lived a long, sometimes hard life, but she was always positive and had a love for traveling. Whether it was going to Colorado to see her family, to Northern California or Illinois to visit Bob's family, traveling with the Drum and Bugle Corps, traveling with friends or traveling to Europe to visit Robert when he was in the Air Force.
Florine is survived by two sons Robert and William Britton, and one daughter Linda Longshore, seven grandchildren (also known to the grandchildren as Oma), Lisa, Sabrina, Jeremy, Jason, Heather, Rebecca and David, and several great grandchildren.
She was a devout Christian and loved and followed Jesus all the days of her life. She now rests in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, rejoicing with her family who went before her. Florine was gathered to her people at 2:30 a.m. on June 9, 2019 at Valley View Gardens in Garden Grove, California.
Matthew 25:23 reads: “...His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'” Welcome home Florine!
