Mike was born November 15, 1975 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Michael Lee Smith Sr. and former wife Dr. Donna (Lemley) Avery, Ed.D.
Mike graduated from Westerville South High School in 1994 and continued his undergraduate education at The Ohio State University. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree in 2005. Since then, Mike and his life companion and business partner Dr. Sanghee Yun have worked together to expand their expertise and solidify their footprint in the dental industry. This includes the ownership and operation of three successful dental practices in Houston, Texas.
Outside of his profession, Mike was most known to be an avid world traveler. His love for exploration has taken him to over 20 different countries over the span of his life. He often brought along Sanghee and his family on many of his adventures. In addition to traveling, Mike’s interests included anything related to Ohio State Buckeye football; and also kite surfing and yachting in different regions within Central America and the Caribbean.
Mike is survived by his companion of over 23 years Sanghee Yun of Houston, TX; his parents Michael (Victoria) Smith Sr. of Columbus, OH and Donna Avery of Houston, TX; sister Nakia (Scott) Bush of Columbus, OH; step siblings Aisha and Blake Whitfield; beloved nieces Dominique Smith, Aaliyah and Aubrey Bush; and many more aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is predeceased by paternal grandmother Blanche Washington of Cincinnati, OH and maternal grandparents Donald and Sally Lemley of Chillicothe, OH.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, OH 43085, on Saturday, December 16th. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00pm-1:00pm. Mike’s memorial service will follow at 1:00pm with Bishop Obadiah E. Harris, Pastor LUJC of Chillicothe, OH officiating.
