Jerome W. Smith

Jerome Wesley Smith, Sr. was born September 9, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of Charles and Alease Smith. Jerome’s only sibling was the late Consuelo "Connie" Sandra Smith. She was very supportive of her brother. He attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from East High School. While in high school, he participated in basketball and track.

After high school, Jerome married and to this union was born one daughter and four sons. Jerome and Mildred raised Kim Lorine Smith (Thomas), Jerome Wesley (Karla) Smith, Jr., Tony Victor (Mia) Smith, Duncan Ray (Theda) Smith, and the late Dustin Keith (LaTisha) Smith.

Jerome later married Helen F. and together they raised one daughter and one son—Leontyne Chrystal Pounds Alexander and Dr. Robert Elijah Smith (Luise).

Jerome was a responsible provider for his family. He was an entrepreneur working multiple jobs including Columbus Public Schools, Westinghouse Corporation; a prep cook at Ohio State University; and retired from Kal Kan Corporation. He owned rental property and worked for Robbins Realty. Most of all, he had a personality that was jovial and well-received by those around him. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attended church services and participated. He enjoyed bike riding and participating in yearly family reunions with his older children.

In addition to his children, Jerome leaves 11 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many devoted family and friends who are too numerous to list but are dearly loved because they are God’s creation.

A visitation for Jerome will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM. Procession to Union Cemetery will immediately follow services.
