He is survived by his best friend and wife of over 47 years, Susan Osborne, who has been by his side since they met at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and married shortly after graduation in 1975. After several moves to other states, they returned to Ohio where they raised their young family in Plain City, Ohio — the town where Earl had grown up. He was a loving, kind, wise and present father for three children: Katherine Hunt, Christopher Osborne and Gregory Osborne who will forever remember all the Nutcracker performances, golf trips and Buckeye football games they shared with him. Depending on which of his five grandchildren you ask he was an innocent or an ornery grandpa who cherished his time with each of them.
Earl was a man of deep and steadfast faith in the Lord which was evident to all through the integrity of how he lived his life, which included a successful career in finance for over 20 years in Columbus, Ohio. Upon all three of his children graduating college and moving out of the house, he took up sailing with his wife. The two of them then sailed their 27' Compact named the Hakuna Matata from Maryland down the east coast to the Florida Keys so it would be close to their home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida where after vacationing for nearly 20 years they then retired to. He also used this time to rededicate himself to several lifelong passions including golf, model trains (O gauge) and rocketry.
He remained close with his siblings throughout his life and is survived by two sisters, Laura Slemp and Rebecca Raber. Earl battled cancer for the last five years and through his over 100 rounds of chemotherapy he still found time to serve others through his church, volunteering at Loggerhead Marinelife Center and Meals on Wheels. When not visiting his children and grandchildren or serving others, he loved spending time sailing on the open sea with the love of his life, Sue. It was his happy place.
Family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 4pm-7pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230.
