Carl A. Evans “Bud”, age 97, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023 at Sunrise of Gahanna. He was born February 13, 1926 in Wood River, Illinois to Joseph and Elinor Evans but called both Columbus and Florida home. Bud proudly served his country as a Sailor and fought in both World War II and the Korean War. His service was known to anyone who encountered Bud in the last 20 years, as he wore hats showing his commitment to the military. Later, he participated in the prestigious Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to pay homage to his fellow servicemembers.
Bud loved his country and his family. He married Lena (Starkey) on January 16, 1949. A committed husband, father, and worker. He retired from The Fred D. Pfening Co. with 35 years of service.
Bud is preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years. He leaves behind his beloved children, Peggy Evans, Gary (Alice) Evans, and Dennis (Mary Ellen) Evans; grandchildren, Traci (Jeff) Taute, Brian (Beth) Evans, Allison Evans, Andrew (Maranda) Martin, Bethany (Jordan) Guhl, and Holly (Bryan) Levin; great-grandchildren, Lexi (Brody) Davis and Carli Taute, Bryce and Macy Evans, Blakely and Palmer Guhl, and Arden and Dawson Levin, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Eldon and Joseph Evans.
Carl’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Capital City Hospice, ComForCare Aids, Sunrise of Gahanna, and especially to Carl’s daughter Peggy, whose loving care allowed Carl to remain in the comfort of his home. Visitation will be Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. at Schoedinger in Gahanna - 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. Funeral Service will take place at Schoedinger in Gahanna the following day, Friday, September 29, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens; Pastor Tom Dove, officiating.
