Brooke Adams Cheney, age 69, of New Albany, Ohio passed away peacefully on October 17th, 2024. Brooke was born on September 7, in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Shelby High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from The Ohio State University in 1978 and continuing education from the School of Bank Marketing at the University of Colorado and the American Institute of Banking. While at Ohio State, Brooke was an active member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and the 14th member of his family both to pledge and live in the organization's house.
Brooke pursued a lifelong interest in politics, taking early inspiration from his mother's involvement in community and political affairs. He was an innovator in the field of lobbying, as one of the earliest independent lobbyists in Ohio, leading him to found Governmental Policy Group, Inc. on February 1st, 1988. He was always willing to share his insights and mentored many elected officials as well as others in his profession and commanded respect with his effective and ethical approach. Brooke was an active and certified member of the Ohio Lobbying Association.
Brooke was appointed to the Executive Order of the Ohio Commodores by Governor John R. Kasich in recognition for outstanding contributions to the economic development of the State of Ohio. He also served as a board member of the Capitol Square Foundation to increase public awareness and involve citizens in the history of the Ohio Statehouse. Brooke was a member of the Rose Run Presbyterian Church, an avid golfer, a loyal Buckeye fan, and enjoyed hosting gatherings of loved ones and playing cards with his family. In his free time, Brooke remained active as a member of the New Albany Country Club, and of the Athletic Club of Columbus for over 40 years.
Brooke is survived by his significant other Heidi Hagan, their dogs Gertrude and Mildred, and his nephew Matthew Charnas, of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents Brooke and Virginia Cheney and his sister Connie Ruth Charnas (née Cheney).
A visitation for Brooke will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. A memorial service for Brooke will be held Friday, November 1, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Rose Run Presbyterian Church, 5220 Johnstown Rd, New Albany, OH 43054.
