Alice Hunter, age 80 of Pataskala and formerly of Gahanna, passed away on October 7, 2024. She was born January 1, 1944. A daughter to the late Horton and Bessie Snyder. In addition to her parents, and as the youngest of 16 siblings, Alice is preceded in passing by brothers, Maxie, Gary, Ross, Wayne, Ralph, Harold, George, Hubert, Harry and sisters Naomi, Iona, Aleta Mae, Mary, Juanita, and Lydia “Sis.”
As a New Year baby, Alice was born in Letart, WV. She moved to Columbus in 1962 where she ultimately met the love of her life on a blind date in 1966. Within three months, Alice married John, and they embarked on a 57-year journey that affected many lives. Alice volunteered for her church, the scouts, TWIG, and the Child Care League (CCL). She enjoyed many trips to West Virginia and Minnesota to spend time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling to different parts of the country such Alaska, Oglebay Park, Las Vegas, Maine, California and Michigan. Her passion was spending time with the children of the Gahanna-Jefferson Public School system. As the Head Cook at multiple schools, Alice took the time to make everyone feel special. Whether you were a student, a teacher, an administrator or the principal, Alice was gifted with the ability to make everyone feel welcome; her most recognizable passion was the playing of the “Happy Birthday Song” to 100s of students, friends, and family members.
Throughout her life Alice weaved a legacy of meticulousness that extends to and facilitates the successful lives led by her children and grandchildren. She deeply loved her husband John and as his soulmate they navigated life’s challenges while excelling as wonderful parents. Whether it was sacrificing a rare coin collection so that her son could go to the movies with his friends or teaching her daughter how to care for others while they were in need, Alice had a heart of gold.
Alice is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John E. Hunter Sr.; children, Amanda (David) Ash and John (Amy) Hunter, Jr.; and her 5 grandchildren Kristen, Brian, Branden (Hannah), Madison, and Mikaela (Brandon); and 2 great grandchildren Nolan and Avery. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces and nephews including Elvis and Chuck “Chucky” Zerkle.
She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
A funeral service for Alice will be held Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. A visitation will directly follow from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the funeral home. An interment will occur Monday, October 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 351 Coonpath Rd NE, Lancaster, OH.
