Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Frist United Methodist Church of Gadsden for Ralph R. Sollie Sr., age 80, of Gadsden, who passed peacefully Monday, January 6th 2014 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Gadsden AL. He will lie in state from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Rev. Harvey Beck will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation services is directing.
Ralph was born in 1933 in Great Bend, PA. and grew up in Hamilton NY. He graduated from Morrisville State College in 1953 and served in the Army 2nd Armored Division in Germany. Ralph owned and retired from Arrow Conveyer Equipment Company in Macedon, NY. In retirement Ralph resided in Kissimmee Florida and later settled in Gadsden AL. He was a devoted husband, father, and uncle. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He got his biggest buck ever in September, at age 80. He will always be remembered as a loving husband with enduring wit and enormous generosity. Ralph touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
He was the love of my life and will remain in my heart forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Sollie; daughter Vicki Linn Sollie; and nephew, Keith Sollie.
He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Theresa “Terri” Sollie; sons Ralph Sollie, Jr. and Scott (Kim) Sollie; grandchildren, , Cal Sollie, Larkin Sollie, Taylor Sollie, and Erika Sollie; Taylor and Erika’s mother, Amy Sollie; brother, Harry (Ann) Sollie; sister-in-law, Mary (Lynn) Whelan; and many very special loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will accept friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at the funeral home.
