Ossie Lee Smith, age 89, of Hokes Bluff, Alabama passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021. Ossie was born January 7, 1932.The family will receive friends at Collier Butler Funeral Home Thursday, April 8, 2021, night from 5:30 until 7:30 pm. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Friday, April 9, 2021 at Collier Butler Chapel with Rev. Chris Walker officiating. Collier Butler Funeral Home will direct services.
Mr. Smith enjoyed working in his yard, eating at Jacks, spending time with his family and loved being a part of the Ronnie Watkins Ford family where he worked in the parts department up until a few years ago. He was a member of Cross Creek Community Church for many years. Mr. Smith was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the Navy from 1952 to 1955 and the Navy Reserves from 1955 to 1960. While in the Navy, he traveled to several countries on the USS Thomas Jefferson.
At a later date Mr. Smiths grandson, Trent, will fly his ashes to the National Cemetery for Veterans in Chattanooga, TN as Mr. Smith has always wanted to fly with his grandson since he got his pilot license.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alva Lee Smith and Ruby Holt Smith; his brothers James, and Buddy; sister Imogene; and one grandson Daniel Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 63 years Joan Lankford Smith. They were married May 4, 1957 in Etowah county. He is also survived by sons Dennis Lee Smith (Pam) of Lindale, Ga, and Richard Allen Smith (Kathy) of Murfreesboro, Tn; daughter Johnna Ann Blair of Nashville, Tn.; 8 grandchildren: Janene, Martin (Shawn), Sean (Bethany) Smith, Brittany (Rich) Higgins, Madison (Zach) Harris, Trent (Autie) Blair, Carolyn Blair, and Allison (Heath) Austin; 5 great grandchildren: Savannah Walraven, Easton Prater, Ossie Austin, Tripp Harris, and Emma Higgins; A special family member Aunt Johnnie (Buddy) Beck; and several nieces and nephews.
