She was the daughter of the late John Lowell Brock and Versie Creel Brock of Boaz. She is survived by her son, Sean Whitt; daughter-in-law,
Laurel; three granddaughters, Meredith, Mallory and Madeline; and brother, James “Buddy” Brock (Patsy).
She lived in Gadsden for most of her life where she was a member of First Baptist Church. She was born in Cullman but also lived briefly in Boaz.
She graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1956 before working as a teller for Alabama City Bank. Subsequently, she took a full-time
job at Snead State Community College working in the administrative office while taking some business classes. Later, she was employed by
GMAC where she worked for over 30 years and retired as an accounting supervisor. In 2010 she moved to Springville to be closer to her family.
She was a beloved mother and grandmother known as “Gran” who always had a smile on her face. She loved children and often volunteered to
help in the church nursery. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with friends and family. With a servant’s heart, she was always
willing to help others in need. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed the countryside due to her early roots in Cullman County.
Visitation will be at Collier-Butler Funeral Home on Monday 6 to 8 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in memory of Joyce Brock Whitt.
