Jo Dean Sims

Mrs. Jo Dean Sims, 89, Hokes Bluff, AL passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012. She was born on June 18, 1922. Jo Dean graduated from Hokes Bluff High School and was a lifelong member of Hokes Bluff First United Methodist Church. She was married to Robert Bruce Sims on July 7, 1942. Jo Dean worked as a housewife, mother, in the family grocery business and with Goodyear during World War II.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Sims and grandson, D.J. King.

She is survived by her children, Sharon (H.K.) Reeves, Alan (Joan) Sims, Jeff (Emily) Sims all of Hokes Bluff and Greg Sims, Houston, TX. Grandchildren: Chip (Kelley) Reeves, Traci (Javin) O’Barr, Todd (Mellissa) Sims, Carrie Gibbs, Alaina and Collin Sims, Jordan and Isaac Sims, Derek (August) Sims, Edmond (Diana) Samora, Gary Mayhall and Britt (Scott) Hawks. Great Grandchildren: Trey, Abagail and Hayden Reeves, Parker and Carter Jones, Banx and Maddi O’Barr, Elle, Lorelei Sims, Eason Gibbs, Aaliyah, Allie and Lee Sims, Kelsey and Kayla King, Sidney , Iana and Sabastian Samora, Raegan and Reese Hawks. Sisters: Nell Lankford and Marcia (Wayne) Rhodes, brother; Mike Downey, sister-in-law: Allene (W.L.) Thompson and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Glenda and Steve Ashley, Deborah Collins and all the caregivers at Mountain Cove for the excellent care. Thanks to Dr. John Wilborn and all the staff for their many years of care and thanks to Jamie and Holly for the Hospice Care.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2012 at Collier-Butler Chapel with Brother Harvey Beck officiating. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services Directing.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hokes Bluff First United Methodist Church.
