Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday-August 17, 2011 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mr. James Dewitt (Butch) Bridges, age 88 of Glencoe who passed away peacefully at his home Sunday-August 14, 2011. Revs. Wade Acton and Rodney McGinnis will officiate with burial at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services Directing.
Mr. Bridges was born on July 6, 1923 to James Fletcher and Annie Bridges of Gadsden. He graduated from Gadsden High School, was a veteran of World War II and retiree of Allis Chalmers where he was known as “Top Cat”. He loved his church and was an active member of Glencoe Cumberland Presbyterian Church. His special interests were singing, playing the guitar, watching westerns and fishing. Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by his wife, Sara R. Bridges and granddaughter Amy Cheatwood Dempsey.
Survivors are daughters; Rosemary (Charles) Cheatwood and Becky (Mark) Walden. Grandchildren; Wendy (Phillip) Jones, John Cheatwood, grandson-in-law; David (Heidi) Dempsey. Great Grandchildren; Anna Loveless, Alisha Jones, Daniel Dempsey and Erin Dempsey, special pet Tom Bridges.

Pallbearers will be; Mark Walden, Charles R. Cheatwood, John Cheatwood, Phillip Jones, David Dempsey and Harold Carmack.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his church family, his girls at Hungry Hut and many personal friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
