George Washington Adams

Funeral service will be held at Collier-Butler Chapel Monday, March 28, 2010 at 2:00pm for Mr. George W. Adams, 79, of Glencoe, who passed away March 25, 2011. Rev. Roger Thompson will officiate with burial to follow at Crestwood Cemetery.

Mr. Adams received an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech and a master’s degree from LSU. He served his country in the US Army and his community through such organizations as Civitan and his church. His 35 year career at Exxon gave him opportunity for extensive travel.

Mr. Adams is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years; Patricia Mascis Adams, and brothers; Benjamin and Merrill Adams.

He is survived by his son, George W. Adams, Jr.; daughter, Sandra (Tim) Carroll; grandchildren, Tim Jr. (Stephanie), Adam (Heather) and Sean (Ivey) Carroll; six great-grandchildren; and brother; Marvin Adams of Thomaston, Ga.

The family would like to thank Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Riverview Regional and St. Vincent East ICU Staff, Dr. Sledge, Dr. Shaw, dear friends and neighbors including Louise, Carl and Sharliss. Special thanks to First United Methodist Church of Gadsden for their visits, cards, calls and prayers.

His wit, sense of humor and loving nature will be missed by all. He loved life and enjoyed his friends and family.

The family will be accepting flowers or donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Gadsden.

Visitation will be held at Collier-Butler Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 5pm until 7pm.
