Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Freddie Lecil White, age 72, of Mt. Olive, who passed away Monday, December 28, 2015. Bro. Lauil Thompson will officiate. Private interment of ashes will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Glencoe.
Fred was born in Attalla on March 9, 1943, and he was a graduate of Glencoe High School, class of 1961. He spent most of his adult life living and working in the Gadsden area until he moved to the Birmingham area in the mid-90’s. For more than 24 years, he was a firefighter and paramedic with the Gadsden City Fire Department. During this time, he also worked as a plumber. He earned a nursing degree from Gadsden State Community College in 1986 and worked as a nurse at Gadsden Regional and Mountain View before moving to Birmingham to work at UAB. He attended Sharon Heights Baptist Church. He was a loving and devoted Daddy, PaPa, and brother.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beth White Messer; parents, James and Carrie White; brothers, Jimmy White and Jerry White; brother-in-law, Freddie Kitchens.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn White; son, Brian White; daughter, Lori (Don) Whitman; son-in-law, John Messer; grandchildren, Jasmine Brooks, Carrington White, Meredith Whitman, Mason Messer and Olivia Messer; sister, Alice Kitchens; brother, Eddie (Geraldine) White; sisters-in-law, Doris White and Bobbie White; three step-children; several step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Collier-Butler.
