A memorial service will be held at 4:00PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Brother Mitchell Hill will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. The family will accept friends from 2:00PM until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Dewayne worked for Gadsden Water Works and also Boatner Construction. He loved spending weekends with his wife Lindsey at home. He loved going to the drag strip and First Friday with his family. He loved working on anything and everything. But most of all he loved his grandchildren and did not go a day without calling to check on them or seeing them.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Berthell Veal; father, R.E. Skipper; his brothers and sisters, Jerry Veal, Johnny Veal, Doug Skipper, Dale Skipper, Ray Reeves, Judy Pruitt, Janice Veal, and Betty Whitfield.
He is survived by his wife, Lindsey; his children, Nicole (Frank) Skipper, Destinee (Zach) Skipper, Emilee (Dustin) Martin, Hunter Armstrong, and Parker Rakestraw; his grandchildren, Adalyn Brown, Samuel McGinnis, Frankie Adamy, Kaiser Martin, Ellie Brown, Jude Gilliam, (Lakelyn Jo); his brother, James (Hector) Veal; his sisters, Jennifer (Larry) Ragsdale, Debra (Ernest) Brown, Brenda Gail Godfrey, Linda Deberry Hensley, and Sally Skipper Thompson; special friends, Brandon Booker, Elvis Rhodes, Keith Spears, and Dale Wallace; and special pets, Buttercup, Gizmo, Max, and Barney.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to his brother, James Veal, for stepping in to help raise and shape Dewayne into the man that he became, as well as the Glencoe police and fire department for their assistance.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis foundation or to the Etowah County Humane Society.
