Mrs. Catherine Brewer Bright moved from this earth into her heavenly home on Friday, January 8th , surrounded by family. With failing health over several years, her greatest desire was for God to call her name and take her into His presence. She lived 93 years and from the age of 6, she had known Him as her Lord and Savior
Mrs. Bright was born on December 10, 1927 in Altoona, Al, to William Robert Brewer and Jessie Marie Harris Brewer and lived most of her adult life in Attalla and Gadsden (Etowah County), AL. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church and worshipped at Attalla First United Methodist with family and friends. She attended Etowah High School and worked at Betty Gay Dress Shop, Charm Shop and Lerner Dress Shop on Broad Street for many years. She also worked with G.C. Murphy Stores when they opened in Gadsden.
Mrs. Bright was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Jack Estes Bright; her parents, William Robert and Jessie Marie Harris Brewer; sister, Brenda Fitts, brother, William (Bud) Brewer, brother-in-law, Sidney Fitts, daughter-in-law, Vicki Bright, sister-in-law, Judy Brewer, great-great grandson, Bain Roberson.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Jacklynn “Patsy” (John Sherrell) Roberson, David (Elizabeth) Bright, Robert “Bobby” (Connie) Bright, and Sherry (Lynn) McCary; grandchildren Eric (Lori) Roberson, Christian (Leann) Roberson, Tracy (Charles) Gough, David (Laura) Bright, Josh (Amy) McCary,; ten great-grandchildren, Brandon (Holly) Roberson, Matthew (Ashley) Roberson, Elizabeth, Jack, Catherine and William Roberson, Kyle and Claire Edwards, Jack Estes II and Kathryn Bright and six great-great grandchildren. Emma, Cadence, Lucas, Jacob, Braxton and Claire Roberson; brothers, Johnny Brewer, Jacky (Patricia) Brewer; sisters-in-law, Beverly Brewer and Janice Grimm, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Mrs. Bright loved her home built by her husband after he returned from WWII, fulfilling a promise to her that, if God let him come back from the war, he would build her a house. She loved working in her yard and spent many hours planting and nurturing the plants that she loved so much. Many of her plants had a “history”, coming from a special place of fond memory in her life or coming from a special someone. This she recalled over and again. Her home was a collection of her love and joys, holding numerous items given to her by those she loved. She never failed to share who had given her a special item and their touch on her life.
Mrs. Bright served alongside her husband as he pastored several Baptist churches in Etowah County. One of her greatest gifts was her beautiful voice with which she offered praises to God. She had a true faith in God and never hesitated to share her faith with both her family and those around her. She was always there to help those in need and, when she couldn’t help, she was diligent in finding someone who could do what needed doing. Her life was an inspiration to all those who knew her. Her love, her caring and her faith in an “ever present God” touched so many lives. As often was said, “she had a direct-line” to the Man upstairs and was called upon by both family and friends to talk with God concerning their needs. Her faith never wavered, whatever the circumstance. Her words of encouragement and her faith in God was always on her lips for those who needed reassurance that God was in control. She loved people and always had a friendly smile and up-lifting conversation for those with whom she came in contact. Her cards of love and concern sent to family and friends always included her “pink feather” of love. She, most often, was unforgettable by those whose life she touched, even with the slightest brush of her presence.
She’s now in the presence of her Heavenly Father. Heaven is a sweeter and a more wonderful place, but a void will be forever felt by her family and by all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to thank all those who have expressed their sympathy, love and concern. You have given us strength and encouragement in our time of loss. A special thanks to Dr. H. Patel and to the special ladies of Heaven’s Helpers who were there with their love and care. The family will have a private service on Thursday, January 14th, at 2:00 at Collier Butler. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Attalla First United Methodist Church, The Love Center or to a favorite charity.
