Walter Delano Lockhart

Walter was born on November 25, 1934, in Columbus, GA the son of Wayne and Ruby (Walmer) Lockhart who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Shirley Foster on September 10, 1955, in St Louis, MO. Walter earned his Bachelor's Degrees in Theology and Accounting from Asbury Methodist College, Wilmore, KY. Walter and Shirley then attended the Salvation Army seminary in Chicago, IL. Their first pastorage was in Carthage, MO. They planted a Salvation Army Corp in St. Charles, MO. Several other pastorates included Flag Springs and Mt Moriah Baptist Churches in California, MO. He retired as a bi-vocational pastor from Ebenezer Baptist Church, Fulton, MO in 2015. His working years included accounting for several automotive dealerships in St. Louis and Jefferson City. His greatest passion was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of 68 years. Together they have one son, Ed Lockhart (Karen) of Jefferson City, MO; one daughter, Lynne Masterson (Steven) of New Bloomfield, MO; one sister, JenEtta Pauley (Robert) of Fulton, MO; six grandchildren, Stacy Branson (Evan), Stephanie Rhorer (Jake), Walter Scott Lockhart (Jenny), Gregory John Masterson, William Andrew Lockhart (Hillary) and Daniel Ryan Masterson (April) and seven great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Dilan, Emma, Raylin, Jasmine, Wyatt and Mason. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Lockhart and Eugene “Buddy” Lockhart and two sisters, Ina Strelow and Retha Cooper.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Southside Baptist Church. Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Guy Thomas officiating. Burial will be held in Ebenezer Cemetery at a later date.
