Deborah Renee Payne

Deborah Renee Payne, a vibrant soul whose love and laughter touched the lives of many, was born on July 28,1956, in Pontiac, Michigan. She passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, in Fulton, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Deborah, affectionately known as Debbie, was the cherished daughter of Billie Paul Payne and Delores Mae Travis Payne. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, as well as her sisters Cherie and Paula, and her brothers Terry and Darren.

Debbie graduated from South Callaway High School in 1974, setting the foundation for a life filled with passion and purpose. She held various jobs throughout her life, including positions at The Spot Cafe, Presbyterian Manor, and Rost Convenience Store. However, her most beloved role was at the Callaway County Veterinary Clinic, where she cared for animals and offered her helping hand wherever it was needed. Her love for animals was evident in her home, which often resembled a small zoo due to her compassion for all creatures great and small.

Family was the cornerstone of Debbie's life. She is survived by a son Kenneth Payne, her loving daughter, Stephanie Hays, and son-in-law, Keith Byler, who brought her immense joy. Her grandchildren Ivy Jayde Hays, Darren Andrew Hays, and Wyatt Roger James Moreland, were the lights of her life, and she took every opportunity to show them off with pride. She often stated that they were her greatest accomplishments in life. Debbie shared a deep bond with her boyfriend, Michael Carey, with whom she cherished many memories, including crisp fall nights around the fire pit, smoking a bowl and visits to a favorite special waterfall.

Her passions extended beyond animals; Debbie had a green thumb that transformed her home into an indoor jungle, filled with beautiful plants and flowers. She had an affinity for collecting pigs of all varieties—a testament to her quirky spirit, one that even included a real pig in her collection. Music was another significant part of her life; she learned to play the piano at a young age and mastered it beautifully. Her love for Elvis Presley was a treasured bond she shared with her little brother Darren. Debbie believed that music spoke when words could not, and she found comfort in its melodies.

Known for her strong-willed, independent nature, Debbie was a person with an enormous heart and an infectious laugh. Her captivating smile and alluring eyes drew people to her, and she had a personality that was both intriguing and unforgettable. Debbie had a hippie soul with a free-spirited vibe, she was always a leader rather than a follower, and she spoke her truths fearlessly. While she faced challenges and learned valuable lessons throughout her life, her confidence and authenticity made her truly one of a kind. She lived life on her own terms, embracing her individuality with a unique charm that made her remarkable. In her own words, Debbie wanted to say: "I’m still a sassy smart ass mixed with a bit of class, and this is not goodbye, just simply peace for now." She is irreplaceable, and her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton, MO. Memorial service will follow at 5:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Bruce Willamson officiating.
