Pauline Marie Hurley

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 27th, 1918 to Paul and Mary Giannobule. Pauline had five siblings, Sam, Frank, Vincent, Mary and Rose.

As a young lady Pauline was very active in Park Avenue and Lincoln High Schools in Des Moines. She loved school and played volleyball and basketball as well as the violin in the school orchestra. She was involved in drama class and played the lead in Tom Sawyer as “ Aunt Polly”. She won an award in Dramatics when she graduated in 1936. Pauline enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps for the United States Air Force in 1942, and was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1945.

Pauline met James Hurley in the Air Force. After both were Honorably Discharged from the Air Force they married in 1945 and moved to Detroit Michigan to start a family. From Detroit James moved to California to explore job opportunities and were soon followed by Pauline and five children on the train. The family eventually moved to Maywood, California in 1958 and finally settled in Anaheim, California.

In addition to being a full time wife and mother, Pauline worked as a registrar for Servite High School for 23 years, and moonlighted at J.C. Penny’s. Pauline was involved in prayer groups as well as many church ministries including Women’s Council, Parish Council and Cursillo. She was a Eucharistic Minister and received Catholic Woman of the Year award at San Antonio Church.

She was always proud to have served our country and was a dedicated Veteran. Pauline was grateful and felt very blessed to have made so many lifelong friends.

Pauline and James are survived by six children, Mike, Tim, Mary, Jim ,Kevin ,Cathy, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Those of us who knew Pauline were inspired by her deep faith, strong family values, and everyday willingness to accept each day as God’s gift.

Pauline will be greatly missed.

A visitation for Pauline will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McAulay and Wallace Mortuary, 902 N. Harbor Blvd., Fullerton, California 92832. A rosary service will occur Friday, December 8, 2023 at 7:00 PM, 902 N. Harbor Blvd., Fullerton, California 92832. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11:30 AM at San Antonio Catholic Chuch, 5800 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd, Anaheim Hills, CA 92807. A reception will occur Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at San Antonio Catholic Chuch, 5800 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd, Anaheim Hills, CA 92807. A committal service will occur Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 7845 Santiago Canyon Rd, Orange, CA 92869.
